It’s not often that the acquisition of one machine can increase output by more than 400% – but that’s exactly what’s happened at Chigwell Window Centre after they recently purchased a new Supercut 5 from Wegoma (now Avantek).
Chigwell Window Centre was formed in early 2014 by Sunny and Ammo Singh, with a workforce of two. Based in Hainault, Essex, the company manufactures and installs uPVC and aluminium doors and windows for the domestic and commercial sectors.
The speedy rise of the company was compounded when they approached a neighbouring firm, Chigwell Construction, with a view to securing a contract to supply windows. The Managing Director, Dean Floyd, was so impressed that instead of awarding them the contract, he bought into the company.
Since then they have relocated to 10,000 sq ft premises and invested more than half a million pounds in machinery and vehicles in the last month alone.
This astronomical rise means they now have a 25-strong workforce and have increased output from between 100-150 windows per week to 500!
One of the major reasons behind the dramatic increase in output is the company’s investment in a state-of-the-art Supercut 5 machine.
The latest machining centre for uPVC window and door profiles, the Supercut 5 is a high-end machining centre that has been custom-built for the UK and Irish window industry.
Sunny explains how the acquisition came about: “While we were in the process of purchasing other machinery, we couldn’t find a machining centre that would do exactly what we wanted it to: increase output. One of our other suppliers suggested the Supercut so we got in contact to find out more.
“We were really impressed when we spoke to the guys. They were friendly, helpful and informative – and we knew very quickly that we had found what we needed.
“The guys were fantastic. They spent two weeks on site here during the installation, which only took four weeks in total. It was a very smooth process and led to an easy transition from our previous system to the new one.
“We couldn’t believe the immediate results – it’s blown us away really! The staff love it and the built-in labelling system has made life so much easier. We were previously using marker pens to label the cuts, but now everything is much better organised and efficient.
“In fact we are now in the process of installing a new scanning system and aim to be a paperless company very soon. We just couldn’t be happier with the Supercut 5!”
